Loss Prevention Services has been a specialist in retail theft prevention for 50 years. Our Retail Loss Prevention Investigator (LPI) program provides an essential service to our long-standing clients. Working plainclothes in a retail environment takes a great deal of training and creativity to be successful. Many LPIs have launched their law enforcement careers through LPS. Good tactical communication is essential to a safe and productive Loss Prevention Program. Our LPIs are true security professionals that represent our clients with respect and decorum.

Expectations of the Position

  • Conduct observations for alert signals
  • Apprehend shoplifters
  • Prevent and deter external theft
  • Prevent and deter external fraud
  • Write narrative reports to document theft cases, recoveries and incidents and Civil Recovery.
  • Secure and maintain evidence and reports
  • Testify in court against individuals referred for prosecution
  • Monitor and communicate procedural control weaknesses to the DLPM, and store management
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Expectations of the Applicant

  • Ontario Security Guard License and First Aid Certificate with CPR (Essential)
  • Knowledge of the Trespass to property act and Criminal Code of Canada section 494
  • Previous experience working in the Security Industry
  • De-escalation certification or ability
  • Police Foundation or Law study graduate
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to work effectively alone or in a team environment
  • Use of a cell phone with Data (Essential)
  • Holds Workers Health and Safety Awareness Certificate (4 step or 5 step)
  • Provide employment references
